Daily Tidbits

Welcome to my new section, which I will be updating as close to daily as I can manage. Each day I will post a new quote or observation about or by Pippin from the book, movie, conversations I have with my friends, pages I find on the internet, whatever. So check back for a new one each day!

You can also contribute to the tidbits if you wish; send anything you wish to submit to me at tsarmina@pioneerstreet.com and I will post it. And you can submit ANYTHING as long as it has something to do with Pippin!

Wednesday 10 March 2004

Pippin: Don't talk to it, Merry. Don't encourage it.
Pippin: The closer we are to danger, the farther we are from harm. It's the last thing he'll expect.

Thanks to Pip-fan for sending today's tidbits!

Friday 30 January 2004

"Then, Master Elrond, you will have to lock me in prison, or send me home tied up in a sack," said Pippin. "For otherwise I shall follow the Company." -FOTR The Ring Goes South

And again today thank Lizzi for the tidbit!

Thursday 29 January 2004

"What are you going to do then?" asked Pippin, undaunted by the wizard's bristling brows.
"Knock on the doors with your head, Peregrin Took! And if that does not shatter them, and I am allowed a little peace from foolish questions, I will seek for the opening words." -FOTR A Journey in the Dark

Again thanks to Lizzi for today's tidbit!

Wednesday 28 January 2004

"What did you blush for, Sam?" said Pippin. "You soon broke down. Anyone would have thought you had a guilty conscience. I hope it was nothing more than a wicked plot to steal one of my blankets." -FOTR The Mirror of Galadriel

Much thanks to Lizzi for copying out today's tidbit!

Tuesday January 13 2004

"Baggins? Sure I know a Baggins! He's over there, Frodo Baggins! He's my second cousin, once removed, on his Mother's side. And my third cousin-"

"Pippin!"

"Steady on!"

-FOTR the movie

Friday December 19 2003

Just want to say that Return of the King is the most awesome movie ever made, the most awesome movie there ever will be. And Pippin rocks. He's amazing. And so adorable. The movie is amazing. Pippin is so brave. In several places. Gosh he almost dies.... several times. OH I love him so much!

Tuesday December 16 2003

Quote from Elanor the Fair:

"While Merry is tapping his foot and wishing Treebeard would get on with things, Pippin is watching and listening to Treebeard, and affecting certain social courtesies that Merry has no time for. "

That's just part of  a Pippin thread on a webboard, read the rest of it! http://pub6.ezboard.com/fhobbitmothersfrm16.showMessage?topicID=7.topic

Monday December 15 2003

“On this occasion the presents were unusually good. The hobbit-children were so excited that for a while they almost forgot about eating. There were toys the like of which they had never seen before, all beautiful and some obviously magical. Many had indeed been ordered a year before, and had come all the way from the Mountain and from Dale, and were of real dwarf-make” -FOTR A Long-Expected Party

And this relates to Pippin because, in the book, he was eleven at the time of Bilbo’s party. That means he would have gotten a toy! Give a hand to the dwarf carpenters for making Pippin happy!

Sunday December 14 2003

A quote from Baillie From Bree:

"I will say that Pippin is the soaring happiness of springtime after long winter, its exuberance and sunshine and waxing bud, birdsong and bright sky, all bottled up into his one small person. I would like to point out that Legolas - for one - valued both him and Merry highly, and it seems clear to me that part of that worth was in their happy natures."

Read the whole thread about Pippin on the forum, it is great! http://pub6.ezboard.com/fhobbitmothersfrm16.showMessage?topicID=7.topic

Saturday December 13 (Happy Birthday Elliot!) 2003

“And there was also one last surprise, in honour of Bilbo, and it startled the hobbits exceedingly, as Gandalf intended. The lights went out. A great smoke went up. It shaped itself like a mountain seen in the distance, and began to glow at the summit. It spouted green and scarlet flames. Out flew a red-golden dragon - not life-size, but terribly life-like: fire came from his jaws, his eyes glared down; there was a roar, and he whizzed three times over the heads of the crowd. They all ducked, and many fell flat on their faces. The dragon passed like an express train, turned a somersault, and burst over Bywater with a deafening explosion.” -FOTR A Long-Expected Party

There’s the dragon firework from the book, for those of you who have not read it. But I’m sure you all remember Jackson’s movie version, and who it was set off by! Lovely way to introduce our most beloved Pip!

Friday December 12 2003

“I will vouch for him before the seat of Denethor,” said Gandalf. “And as for valour, that cannot be computed by stature. He has passed through more battles and perils than you have, Ingold, though you be twice his height; and he comes now from the storming of Isengard, of which we bear tidings, and great weariness is on him or I would wake him. His name is Peregrin, a very valiant man.”
“Man?” said Ingold dubiously, and the others laughed.
Man!” cried Pippin, now thoroughly roused. “Man! Indeed not! I am a hobbit and no more valiant than I am a man, save perhaps now and again by necessity. Do not let Gandalf deceive you!” -ROTK Minas Tirith

Thursday December 11 2003

“The travelers hung up their cloaks, and piled their packs on the floor. Merry led them down a passage and threw open a door at the far end. Firelight came out, and a puff of steam.
‘A bath!’ cried Pippin. ‘O blessed Meriadoc!’
‘Which order shall we go in?’ said Frodo. ‘Eldest first, or quickest first? You’ll be last either way, Master Peregrin.’ -FOTR A Conspiracy Unmasked

Poor Pippin! But it turned out all right:
‘Trust me to have arranged things better than that!’ said Merry. ‘We can’t begin life at Crickhollow with a quarrel over baths. In that room there are three tubs, and a copper full of boiling water. There are also towels, mats and soap. Get inside, and be quick!’” -FOTR A Conspiracy Unmasked

Wednesday December 10 2003

"Wait a moment!" cried Aragorn. "We must divide up into pairs, and arrange - here, hold on! Wait!"
It was no good. They took no notice of him. Sam had dashed off first. Merry and Pippin had followed, and were already disappearing westward into the trees by the shore, shouting: Frodo! Frodo! in their clear, high, hobbit voices. -FOTR The Breaking of the Fellowship

That's why Billy was such a great choice to play Pippin: he has the voice. The Scottish voice! YAY! But honestly in battle it's a very unique battle cry he has, and I for one LOVE it! And I'm assuming you wouldn't be at my site if you aren't the sort of person who appreciates clear, high, hobbit voices as well. (Unless of course you're one of my friends that I have bribed, blackmailed, or otherwise coerced to visit my site.)

Tuesday December 9 2003

"Let us hope that he did not pay too dearly for his boldness," said Legolas. "Come! Let us go on! The thought of those merry young folk driven like cattle burns my heart." -TTT The Riders of Rohan

Pippin is loved! Doesn't that make you feel all warm and happy inside?! Or I suppose it should be making Pippin feel all warm and happy inside... but of course he didn't hear it. Well it makes me feel all warm and happy inside. Everyone else may react as they please.

Monday December 8 2003

Pippin yawned. "I am sorry," he said, "but I am dead tired. In spite of all the danger and worry I must go to bed, or sleep where I sit. Where is that silly fellow. Merry? It would be the last straw, if we had to go out in the dark to look for him." -FOTR Strider
